Flying Dutchman turns 50 in Holland

Hi Joyce,

Thanks for remembering my birthday - I became 50 years old/young last week. Following Joyriders practices, I introduced some social flavour into our local cycling group today. I had organised coffee and cakes after our local group ride this morning, which was much appreciated by my fellow riders. Normally we just say goodbye and all head off in different directions to our homes. This could be a first step towards "breakfast rides".

I lived through winter in Holland with some mixed feelings. Of course there was the change from Singapore back to my home and family and we did some great Ice-Skating. But also, my level of competition had gone down when I left Singapore slightly overworked. The cold weather here provoked my asthma, so that it was difficult to regain my strength in the ice-skating- season. Now that spring has come, the temperature has changed in my favour and I am feeling much better. I will try to work my way back to the way I rode my bike in Singapore. Sometimes my memories from Singapore - hunting down Mandai road towards Shell, or time trailing along Keppel Flyover back to the city, or Sunday breakfast at Botanical Gardens come to mind and make me wish that I could ride with you again. The exercises seemed to work remarkably well.

Compliments for the new website. I noticed that the number of members is now already over 500!! You are doing great!! Keep it up Joyce.

Regards,

Monthly Gathering April 19

April monthly gathering was one big SURPRISE!

Before, I share the 'surprise' that was thrown @ me… we were excited to see Italiano Stefano Wild Horse as we wanted to know how he is recovering from his accident @ Aviva 70.3 recently.  He is looking good and getting pampered by Judith!  We also noticed he had no problem stretching out his left hand for his food!  Can't wait for Stefano to be back on Tues Sprints!

Besides the welcome for new members King Arthur, Derricky and Bengineer, the other highlight was Donna no Distant and Tough Cookie Eliza showed us their trophies won @ Trifam Race J Congratulations ladies, we are very proud of you!

Then we had another bunch that did the tribob race in the morning and then joined us for lunch!  Check photos to see who they are!

Happy Birthday to Jodan Daniel and his daughter Shannon (5), Super Mario Marcus, MLNW Murli Fastest Indian alive and German Christina.  Thanks for giving us excuse to sing to you guys!

Then the BIG SURPRISE came… when Rocky Chris (err, not that Chris is big but slimmer) came up! Thought he wanted to sing us a song?  Make a speech?  Remind us about Twin Towns Challenge where Murli and him will be riding 2000km in 8 days to raise funds for charity?

Chris finally got to announce about the POSB Champion Award that JoyRiders was voted the top favourite by the public after winning the award in Feb 26 2009!

I personally like to thank all members who voted for JoyRiders to be top favourite and again, this award is OURS!  Much thanks to those who nominated in the first place :)

Chris presented on behalf of the group, a Polar CS200 and 2XU Compression Tights which was sponsored by Adrian Mok, Polar and Robert Lu, Key Power International and a nice bunch of flowers from JoyRiders.  Thanks to Rocky Chris, Peter the boy next door and Ernest El Pacino for your dedication too and major thank you to the main `culprit', Super Mario Marcus who planned this touching BIG SURPRISE for me!

Together we ride safely and together we `grow up' gracefully!

Thank you!

Joyce

Sandy's encounter @ Tour de Fun

E-mail Print PDF
Dear folks,

Sorry, i couldn't resist the urge to chronicle my first time trial and thought of sharing them with you...
Participated in the 3.30pm slot yesterday and thoroughly enjoyed it.

There were hilarious and embarrassing moments but all constituted wonderful memories.

So here's my "race" report:

PRE RACE:
Was paired with Donna for the race (Both of us were so relieved!!)
We were scheduled to start immed after eventual winner Dinah and Super Duper Christina.
Donna and I half jested that the crowd was going to witness the 2 extremes - fastest and slowest - back to back.
But nevertheless, we put on our bravest fronts and mounted the provided bikes.

Hurray to our Ironmen (and women, too)...

Here are some quick results of today's race!

1.       Ladies team - Hot sauce Lisze, Catch Charlotte's Web & Dr. Tan Swee Kheng was first!  Thanks to Lisze's powerful prayer – the weather turned out fantastic!

2.       Corporate team with Super Mario Marcus leading his team in his Joyriders jersey was first!  He was inspired with our cheers and shared their victory with us!

3.       Mixed team – Madelaine German (nite) mare and her team mates was first overall!  Her team was specially `set-up' by German Christina.  And Christina was 3rd in her mixed team.

4.       First Lady Jenny flew back from Australia to defend her title – first in her age group

5.       Pocket Rocket Mika was 3rd in her age group

And to those who participated, we had fun supporting and cheering you all.  Do share your adventure with us!   Congratulations to all winners and participants!

Unfortunate accident with Stefano

Stefano in the Men Team with Michael Craig and they would have done very well if not for this unfortunate accident @ Fort Road to the East Coast service road.  Stefano was trying to avoid a `stray' Bangladeshi worker and had to make a wider turn to avoid him but hit the middle divider.

Just spoke to Judith and was told that his dislocated fingers on his left is `fixed back', the hospital did a major cleaning of his elbow wound and have to spend one night @ the hospital.  Thank God nothing serious with his shoulder which was originally thought to be dislocated.

Knowing Stefano, he will definitely heal well!  All of us were concern but glad to know he's okay!
